Canucks Sherwood Linked To 5 Teams In Potential Trade

Kiefer Sherwood, Vancouver Canucks
The Vancouver Canucks appear to be open for business after trading their franchise defenseman Quinn Hughes and getting four assets back. But they don't seem to be entirely packing it in and fully rebuilding. That being said, there are still some players that are available to other teams to trade for as the Canucks are lower in the standings and have to still make up some ground.

Bruce Garrioch reported, "(Kiefer Sherwood) has attracted interest from the Bruins, Islanders, Lightning, Stars, and Flyers."

Boston Bruins

On any given day, almost every team in the Eastern Conference could be in or out of a playoff spot. The Boston Bruins are right in that mix. They have done a nice job turning things around from their down 2024-25 season and are five games over .500 at this point in the season. They could really use another body or two in their top-9, especially if there are injuries to deal with. The Bruins haven't had much trouble scoring, but Sherwood is the player the Bruins could insert into a meaningful spot to give them time in all situations and some extra scoring. Plus there's room for an extension beyond this season.

New York Islanders

The New York Islanders have surprised many by being six games over .500 and in a playoff spot. Some of their young players have stepped up and meshed well with the veterans, who many have had bounce back seasons as well. The Islanders have some inexperience in their lineup and some injuries they're dealing with. Adding a player like Sherwood, who the team could also extend, makes sense as they are trying to win sooner rather than later.

Tampa Bay Lightning

The Tampa Bay Lightning have $3 million to work with right now, but all they need is $1.5 million to bring in Sherwood, who is very cheap cap-wise and the type of player that the Lightning have been known to target close to the deadline ahead of a deep run. Sherwood seems like the best and affordable option to help them this season. I'm not sure the Lightning are in the best position to extend Sherwood like some other teams are, but are still in the mix as they're a good team when healthy.

Dallas Stars

The Dallas Stars have been pretty heavily linked to Sherwood, especially after a ton of cap space opened up when Tyler Seguin was injured for the remainder of the season. The Stars really need some additions, that will eventually come. Their division is very strong at the top and they will need all the help they can get to get through a couple of powerhouses in their divisional and second round matchups.

Philadelphia Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers are also in a playoff spot and are playing well this season. Instead of falling off near the end of the season like they did in 2024-25, the team appears set to hold strong and trend upwards moving forward. They are also in a position to acquire and extend Sherwood, who fits perfectly in with the classic Philadelphia-style of hockey.
