Maple Leafs place Joseph Woll on IR

The Toronto Maple Leafs cant' keep their goaltenders healthy.

After Anthony Stolarz was already on the shelve, and unavailable, Joseph Woll has now gone down, sustaining a lower-body injury on a non-contact play against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday night. The team announced ahead of their Saturday night tilt against the Montreal Canadiens that Woll is out for at least a week, but it's worth noting the team has been all over the place with their injury timelines this season.

The move is retroactive to Dec.4, and in the meantime, Dennis Hildeby, who filled in for Woll and won the game against the Hurricanes, is going to get the start at home against the Montreal Canadiens. Meanwhile, the Leafs have also called up Artur Akhtyamov to backup Hildeby against the Habs.

Woll has gone 4-3-1 on the year, and recently, was by far the Maple Leafs best player on the ice. He's posted a .923 save percentage, and it's also worth noting he missed the entire first month of the season due to personal reasons.

The Maple Leafs have won three straight games and look to continue to build momentum, and creep back into the Stanley Cup Playoff picture in the Eastern Conference. While Stolarz and now Woll try and get healthy, don't be surprised to see Leafs GM Brad Treliving working the phones looking for some veteran help in his crease.
