NHL Trade Rumors: 2 Flyers Deemed Untouchable in Quinn Hughes Trade Talks
The Philadelphia Flyers are very interested in acquiring Vancouver Canucks captain Quinn Hughes. However, they won't be moving two of their promising young forwards to get the deal done.
According to Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff, the Flyers certainly have trade interest in acquiring Hughes, but they won't be moving forward Matvei Michkov or prospect Porter Martone in the deal. Instead, they have a few other trade options who could intrigue the Canucks' brass.
The Flyers have the most talent (both on and in the system) on the wing that they can use as trade currency. I have speculated recently on what players could be part of a package for a player like Hughes, specifically Tyson Foerster and 2025 sixth-overall pick Porter Martone. Speaking with a team source, Martone (and Matvei Michkov, additionally) is viewed as untouchable and would not be on the table for Hughes. On the flip side: given the competition would be extremely fierce to land a future-Hall-of-Famer like Hughes, would any offer without a talent like Martone even interest the Canucks?
Foerster is someone who could very well be included in this deal, as he's young, signed at a reasonable cap hit with term, and has tremendous upside. Foerster was the one player who impressed Sidney Crosby the most during last year's World Championship, and is having a great start to this season with 10 goals in 21 games.
The Flyers also have high-end prospect Jett Luchanko who could interest the Canucks, along with defencemen Jamie Drysdale and Oliver Bonk.
Keep an eye on the Canucks, the noise around Quinn Hughes being dealt has picked up significantly in the last few days, with the Flyers, and Detroit Red Wings as the two teams being linked the most.
