Report: Canucks & Penguins Linked to Blockbuster Trade
The Vancouver Canucks are still looking for a trade partner to deal Elias Pettersson, and it turns out, there could be one within the Eastern Conference. Multiple reports have surfaced connecting the Pittsburgh Penguins to the Canucks in a blockbuster deal that would involve Pettersson heading east.
Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman recently commented on the trade possibility and certainly feels there's something brewing in Vancouver. Friedman sees the Penguins as a great fit for Pettersson, and they have the cap space to add his contract. However, the Canucks are expected to retain some of Pettersson's remaining contract, which pays him $11.6 million AAV through the 2032 season.
The Penguins currently have over $16 million in cap space to work with, and have one NHL contract left vacant on their books. Pittsburgh's trade offer would likely include their 2027 first-round pick, at least one second-round pick, the Penguins have five seconds over the next two drafts, along with Rutger McGroarty, and Ryan Graves.
Do you think the Penguins could be a fit for Elias Pettersson?

The Canucks are rebuilding on the fly, and have more than just Pettersson available in trade talks. There's been multiple reports Vancouver is open to moving Jake DeBrusk, Thatcher Demko, and Brock Boeser, but so far, no deals appear imminent.
As for Pettersson, the Canucks are trying everything they can to move him, but aren't interested in retaining 50% of his salary, for no sweeteners to be included in the trade. We'll have to wait and see if Kyle Dubas and company up their offer, and show a willingness to pay the vast majority of Pettersson's remaining contract.
@FriedgeHNIC mentions he wonders about a fit with the #Pens for Elias Pettersson.

To Van:
Graves (50% retained)
1st 2028
2nd 2027
