4 Teams Active In Advanced Trade Talks

The NHL's trade market is heating up in the middle of January, as several teams have a pretty good sense where they stand as a buyer or a seller. Several general managers are busy trying to make changes to their roster and it's expected we'll see a flurry of trades before the Olympic roster freeze in February.

Right now, the biggest name on the market appears to be New Jersey Devils' defenceman Dougie Hamilton, who was recently scratched by the Devils, and is involved in several different trade scenarios. Hamilton is signed for two more seasons at $9 million and owns a 10-team trade list. Word is, the Devils are actively engaged with the Maple Leafs, Hurricanes and Sharks regarding a trade, and seem to be willing to retain a little bit of Hamilton's remaining cap hit.

Another team in the middle of trade talks, the Calgary Flames. Rasmus Andersson is out there as contract extension talks went nowhere. The Dallas Stars and Vegas Golden Knights appear to be the favorites, meanwhile Blake Coleman to the Montreal Canadiens appears to be something both teams have discussed and traded offers on.

Two other teams reportedly involved in ongoing trade discussions are the Maple Leafs and the Vancouver Canucks. The Canucks are open to just about anything and that includes moving on from Elias Pettersson and Jake DeBrusk. Jim Rutherford is committed to a full rebuild and is looking to move out some of his more expensive veterans.

The Maple Leafs are tied to Hamilton, and have also been linked to the Winnipeg Jets' regarding Luke Schenn and potentially Logan Stanley. There's also Andersson out of Calgary, but giving Brad Treliving's history with the franchise, that would be a hard deal to facilitate. There's also St. Louis Blues' defenceman Justin Faulk who has been linked to the Maple Leafs. Toronto isn't interested in trading Easton Cowan or Nick Robertson, two forwards that get asked about a lot.

Keep an eye on the trade market, we'll share deals as soon as they go down, and considering all the ongoing conversations going on at the moment, you may want to turn on notifications.
