Breaking: Canadiens Reward Alexandre Texier With Multi-Year Extension

Montreal Canadiens forward Alexandre Texier

Alexandre Texier has made a significant impact for the Montreal Canadiens since coming on board in late November. His $1 million 'bet on himself' signing with the Habs has paid off quickly, as Montreal has now signed the versatile forward to a two-year extension worth $5 million ($2.5M AAV).

Texier had his contract mutually terminated by the St. Louis Blues in November after clearing unconditional waivers. He was looking for a better opportunity, and he certainly found it in Montreal.

The 26-year-old has vaulted himself to the Canadiens' top line during his impressive time with the team, and has 16 points in 25 games, including his first career hat trick last week.

“When you have a fresh start, it’s a new opportunity to make a good first impression,” said head coach Martin St. Louis. “From the start, he has done that. You can’t do anything about the past and you can’t worry about the future.

“You have to stay in the present and that’s what he has done.”

“I appreciate the opportunity I’ve been given to be here,” said Texier. “I am grateful and proud. I’m giving myself every opportunity to stay.”

“(Texier has) been great since we got him,” said his linemate Nick Suzuki. “He’s been through some struggles over the years and I think he’s found a good spot here.

Coach St. Louis was familiar with Texier’s game from his time as a special teams consultant with the Columbus Blue Jackets in 2019.
