The deal is worth $18 million, with a $6 million AAV. It's a $1M raise for Wennberg, who is wrapping up a two-year, $5M AAV deal with the Sharks. He was signed by GM Mike Grier in July of 2024.
Wennberg, 31, has been a top-six staple for the Sharks, bringing his reliable defensive game and strong leadership on a nightly basis. He provided some secondary scoring last season with 10 goals and 35 points while averaging 18:51 ice time per game. This year, he's logging a career-high 20:34 per night, as the Sharks rely on his dependable game even more.
Wennberg is also a regular on the special teams as well, playing the first power play unit, and on the penalty kill.
Wennberg says he told #SJSharks over the summer that he wanted to come back: “We loved San Jose from the second we got here…Hard to keep in the emotions because it's just something that I always wanted…it's been a good week and it couldn't have ended it better.”

Per beat writer Sheng Peng, the veteran told the Sharks this past season that he had every intention of staying in San Jose for the long haul. “We loved San Jose from the second we got here," Wennberg said. "Hard to keep in the emotions because it's just something that I always wanted."
