NHL Trade Rumors: New Team Linked To Oilers' Andrew Mangiapane

Edmonton Oilers forward Andrew Mangiapane reacts during 2025 game.

Andrew Mangiapane’s name is heating up again on the trade market, and the New Jersey Devils are popping up as a team that makes a ton of sense.

With Edmonton still trying to find the right landing spot and insiders cautioning that a deal is not imminent, the chatter has shifted to which clubs are desperate enough for scoring depth to make the money and the term work.

Devils Need Scoring Depth and Mangiapane Fits

NHL insider Frank Seravalli has pointed to the Devils as one of the teams craving secondary offense, and it is easy to see why. Mangiapane is not just a random depth winger. He has a legit scoring resume, including a career year in 2021-22 when he buried 35 goals with the Calgary Flames and earned an NHL All Star nod.

He's scored at least 14 goals in six of his seven NHL seasons.

He's recorded 128 goals and 254 total points across 538 games played.

Even in a down year in Edmonton, he still brings forecheck pressure, defensive effort, and a track record of finishing around the net that can play up when his minutes and linemates improve.

Why Edmonton Is Motivated and Why It Is Taking Time

The holdup is pretty clear. Mangiapane is signed at a $3.6 million AAV through next season, and that second year has been framed as the sticking point in talks. He also has a full no trade clause this season, but the reporting suggests he is willing to waive it for a situation where he can play more.

That matters because he has been in and out of the lineup lately, including being a healthy scratch, and Edmonton does not want to risk an injury that kills trade options. This season, the counting stats have been light at 11 points through 40 games, which only adds to the idea that both sides could benefit from a reset.

Edmonton has reportedly checked in with multiple teams, with the Winnipeg Jets, Anaheim Ducks, and Detroit Red Wings all mentioned as clubs that have at least had conversations.

Elliotte Friedman has also suggested that teams around the league still believe Mangiapane can score, which is why the market should eventually get there even if it takes weeks.
