Many Names Revealed For Team Canada's Reserve List At Olympics
Team Canada was not an easy team to make for the 2026 Olympics. There were many deserving players left off the team, but some may get the chance to go if injuries or something else happens at the wrong time. Right now, Bo Horvat and Tom Wilson are injured, while Devon Toews will choose being at the birth of his child over playing in the Olympics.
Pierre LeBrun said, "15 players have been told that they're on the reserve list. The forwards...some pretty obvious names: Sam Bennett, Connor Bedard, Mark Scheifele, Wyatt Johnston. The 4 Nations players that were not brought back." Bennett is one of those 4 Nations players not brought back, but Seth Jarvis and Travis Konecny would be a part of that group. There weren't very many changes from the 4 Nations roster to the Olympic roster despite many criticisms like Anthony Cirelli, Jordan Binnington, Colton Parayko, and Travis Sanheim.
That's only six players that have been listed by name for the Olympic reserve list for Team Canada, so there's plenty more. There will likely be around 3-4 defensemen and maybe 1-2 goalies as well. We can all but confirm Matthew Schaefer and Mackenzie Weegar are defensive reserves and at least one of Mackenzie Blackwood or Scott Wedgewood should be in net, despite the team they play for.
Other top performing players on forward and defense this season include Evan Bouchard, Jakob Chychrun, Morgan Geekie, John Tavares, Gabriel Vilardi, Drake Batherson, Zach Hyman, Ryan O'Reilly, Dylan Guenther, Darren Raddysh, and many more. But I guarantee many haven't even received a call.
For the top projected teams, there have been some questionable decisions. At the end of the tournament, there is going to be one team where it won't matter because they won, but there are going to be questions for management and decisions for the rest.
