TRADE: Ondrej Palat Dealt By Devils Within Metropolitan Division

Ondrej Palat traded from NJ Devils to NY Islanders

For the second time in two days, the Metropolitan Division has seen a trade involving tri-state rivals. The New Jersey Devils have sent Ondrej Palat to the New York Islanders.

The Islanders also receive a 2026 third-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick, and in return they send Maxim Tsyplakov to the Devils.

The Isles also swung a deal with their crosstown rivals, the New York Rangers,  just a day ago, when they acquired defenceman Carson Soucy.

Tsyplakov, the 27-year-old Russian, was brought over to the NHL last season by the Islanders. He had a decent rookie season, with 35 points in 77 games, while dishing out 140 hits. This season, however, he has been in and out of the Islanders' lineup, and has just one goal and one assist in 27 games. He's on a $2.25 million AAV deal through the end of the 2026-27 season.

The Isles will take on the entire $6 million cap hit of Palat for the rest of this season and next. He is also having a disappointing season, with just four goals and six assists through 51 games. He does bring leadership and a championship pedigree to Long Island, as he was a key part of the Tampa Bay Lightning's back-to-back Stanley Cups in 2020 and 2021.
