Minnesota Wild Making Significant Trade Offers
The Minnesota Wild are ready to make another splash on the trade market.
After landing the biggest fish of the season so far in defenceman Quinn Hughes, Wild general manager Bill Guerin has been rumored to be offering goaltender Jesper Wallstedt in trade conversations, to see how much of an impact forward he can add to his group.
Wallstedt, 23, is signed through next season at just $2.2 million, and is a pending restricted free agent at the end of his current contract. He does not hold any trade protection. The former first-round pick has appeared in 23 games this season, posting a 14-5-4 record, along with a 2.68 goals against average, and .914 save percentage.
Guerin's in search for a top-line forward in return, and ideally someone who can play center, and on the wing. The Wild need more scoring prowess up front, but they also need more flexibility, and versatility to their lineup. Guerin won't be moving Wallstedt unless the player in return is locked in to their contract for a few more seasons.
As far as trade partners go, there's been talks of the Ottawa Senators being involved, Chicago Blackhawks, Pittsburgh Penguins, Philadelphia Flyers, and Nashville Predators.
If Wallstedt is moved, don't be surprised to see the Wild sign veteran goaltender Marc-Andre Fleury to backup Filip Gustavsson for the rest of the season and playoff stretch.
