NHL Trade Rumors: Edmonton Oilers discussing trades to fill 2 roles
David Pagnotta: Re Oilers trade deadline targets: It sounds like it's still mid to bottom 6 two way type of player, and somebody big on that backend who can help play a shutdown type role - Inside Sports (2/5)
Bowman has just $2.8 million to work with in deadline cap space, so don't expect to see any significant contracts coming in. There's been plenty of reports the Oilers have held trade discussions with the Toronto Maple Leafs and could be targeting one of Bobby McMann or Calle Jarnkrok, along with one of Simon Benoit or Brandon Carlo.
The Oilers don't have a first-round pick, and the Leafs are asking one for Bobby McMann, so we'll see how far these trade talks progress ahead of the March 6 deadline. Bowman could be open to moving a second-rounder along with a couple of b-level prospects, but at this time, it doesn't feel like he's equipped to go 'all-in' based on lack of trade assets. It will be more so, upgrading around the edges this season.
Look for the Oilers to move Andrew Mangiapane ahead of the deadline, which could open up significant cap space, although, with his struggles, Mangiapane won't fetch a significant return on the trade market.
Keep an eye on the Oilers, Bowman is cooking up some changes.
