Breaking: Maple Leafs Fire GM Brad Treliving

Former Toronto Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving

The first major shoe has dropped in the Toronto Maple Leafs turnover, as general manager Brad Treliving has been fired.

There has been no replacement named at this point. Treliving had one more year remaining on his contract. He had been with the team for three seasons.

Per insider Pierre LeBrun, the Leafs will now conduct a formal GM search.

MLSE CEO Keith Pelley issued the following statement:

"Throughout the course of this season, there has been deep analysis into both the current state of the Maple Leafs organization and the direction needed to achieve the ultimate goal of delivering a Stanley Cup championship to the city.

"Brad Treliving is a man that we all have deep respect & appreciation for, both as a hockey executive & as a person, but it was determined that the club must chart a new course under different leadership.

"The organization is grateful for all that Brad has contributed in his nearly three years with the Maple Leafs and we wish him and his family the very best."

According to insider Darren Dreger, head coach Craig Berube has been given no indication of what his future is with the club beyond this season. But most observers expect him to be let go as well.
