Calgary Flames & Tampa Bay Lightning In Advanced Trade Talks

Keep an eye on the Tampa Bay Lightning and Calgary Flames. Both teams are heading in opposite directions and with the Flames fire sale is likely a Blake Coleman trade coming, and from all accounts, the Lightning have quickly become the favorite landing spot.

Coleman, 34. is signed through next season at $4.9 million AAV. He owns a 10-team approved trade list and you can bet your bottom dollar, heading back to Tampa Bay makes the list. Coleman spent two seasons with the Bolts back in 2019-2021 and won two Stanley Cups. He's been in Calgary since 2021-22, and with the team entering a full rebuild, Coleman's on his way out.

So far this season with the Flames, the veteran versatile forward has averaged 16:52 of ice-time, including on both sides of special teams, and he's posted 13 goals, and 22 points in 48 games. Daily Faceoff's Matt Larkin has Coleman been moved before tomorrow's deadline:

He’s a proven two-time Stanley Cup winner who can deliver 20 goals, occasionally more, while assisting on the penalty kill and playing a feisty, physical game. What contender wouldn’t want him for third-line and PK1 work? The Flames could always sit on him a year and move him as a rental next season, but the demand for his services should be sufficient this year. We should keep an eye on his one of his former teams, the Tampa Bay Lightning. The Athletic’s Pierre LeBrun floated that idea.

Keep an eye on the Flames, they are going to move Coleman, Nazem Kadri, and could take calls on Zach Whitecloud and Ryan Lomberg.

The Lightning are always sneaky around this time of year and make trades that everyone doesn't expect. Adding Coleman ahead of Friday's deadline would be a great move to upgrade their forward group, and push them a step closer to winning the Stanley Cup.
