Maple Leafs' Morgan Rielly & Oilers' Darnell Nurse Linked to Western Conf. Team in Offseason Trade

The Toronto Maple Leafs would like to reshape their roster this summer, and the team's longest-serving player, Morgan Rielly, could be a casualty if they can get him to waive his no-move. He has four years remaining on his deal with a $7.5M AAV.

To a certain extent, the same applies to Darnell Nurse with the Edmonton Oilers. The team is having a frustrating season, and much of the finger-pointing is at the team's blueline. Would the Oilers like to move on from the four more years of Nurse's $9.25M cap hit? You bet they would.

Both of those players heard their names in rumors a bit as the trade deadline approached back at the beginning of this month.

Sharks could target two veteran blueliners in trade market this summer

Meanwhile, after finishing dead last in the NHL last year, the San Jose Sharks were in the midst of an exciting season this year, vaulting themselves even into playoff contention... until about a week or two ago. A five-game losing streak has put an end to those playoff dreams for the Sharks, but their rebuild has taken huge strides, featuring young stars up front like Macklin Celebrini, Will Smith, and Michael Misa, along with Yaroslav Askarov in goal.

But the blueline has been a little more of a trouble spot, and they'll need to find some help this offseason.

Insider David Pagnotta said on The Sheet with Jeff Marek that Rielly and Nurse could be targets for the Sharks.

This is a team that's going to be aggressive, not only in the free agent market, but in the trade market as well. I can see them looking at two pieces that I wouldn't be surprised if their teams reached out to San Jose about. And we've heard their names pop-up at the deadline… Morgan Rielly in Toronto, and Darnell Nurse in Edmonton.

The Sharks are looking to bring in a veteran piece (that has term) on that back end... that can help out some of the younger guys. So I certainly see a Morgan Rielly type conversation happening.

On the same vein, we know that the Sharks tried to swing a deal for Dougie Hamilton from the New Jersey Devils last summer, but he declined to waive his no-move clause. But that's the type of name they've been trying for, and Rielly and Nurse could be next on their target list.
