New York Rangers trade Sam Carrick to Buffalo Sabres

After being a healthy scratch on Thursday night for the New York Rangers thanks to 'roster management' purposes, fourth-line center Sam Carrick is off to the Buffalo Sabres.

At the time of filing, the return for Carrick is unknown, however, it's expected to be a mid-round draft pick, or b-level prospect.

Carrick, 34, can play either the wing or down the middle. He's signed through next season at $1 million AAV, and doesn't own any trade protection. Used mostly on the fourth line, with the Rangers, Carrick was averaging 10:24 of ice time per game, and had collected 10 points in 60 games, while landing 86 hits and winning 53% of his faceoffs.

The Sabres are one of the hottest teams in hockey and appear far from finished heading into Friday afternoon's trade deadline. They've been linked to Colton Parayko of course, who nixed a trade, however they are engaged in trade talks for St. Louis Blues' Justin Faulk, and Florida Panthers goaltender Sergei Bobrovsky.

Buffalo beat the Pittsburgh Penguins on Thursday night easily 5-1, and head into the weekend winners of five straight and with a record of 37-19-6. Carrick gives them some more toughness and depth amongst their bottom six, but there's denying the fact the new Sabres management brass is going after a couple of big fish before the deadline.
