NHL News: Red Wings Sign Top Goalie Prospect Trey Augustine
The Detroit Red Wings have made a notable move, as they have signed top goalie prospect Trey Augustine to a three-year entry-level contract, which will kick in during the 2026-27 season.
In addition, the Red Wings shared that Augustine has signed an amateur tryout (ATO) with the Grand Rapids Griffins for the remainder of the 2025-26 season.
This is undoubtedly big news for the Red Wings, as Augustine is one of the best goalie prospects in hockey. Now, they will get their first chance to watch him at the AHL level. However, more importantly, they got him locked him up to his ELC.
Augustine just completed his junior season with Michigan State University, and it was another strong year for the 21-year-old goaltender. In 34 games with the school on the year, he had a 24-9-1 record, a .929 save percentage, and a 2.11 goals-against average. This is after he had a 19-7-4 record, a .924 save percentage, and a 2.08 goals-against average in 30 games for the school in 2024-25.
Augustine was selected by the Red Wings with the 41st overall pick of the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, he has become one of the Red Wings' most exciting prospects, and there is no question that he has a bright future in front of him.
