Flyers Get Unexpected Huge Boost to Lineup With Tyson Foerster Return

Philaelphia Flyers forward Tyson Foerster takes a slap shot

He was supposed to be out for the rest of the regular season. But after a long four months of rehab, top forward Tyson Foerster is officially back in the Philadelphia Flyers lineup for the first time since December 1st.

Foerster is expected to slot in on the top line alongside Trevor Zegras and Owen Tippett when the Flyers take on the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday. He was also seen on the top power play unit at practice Thursday morning.

The timing couldn't be better, as Philly faces a huge "four-point game" against one of the teams they are tied with, and battling with for the final Wild Card berth in the Eastern Conference. The Flyers, Wings & Ottawa Senators trail the Columbus Blue Jackets by two points heading into play on Thursday. The Flyers are also just three points back of the NY Islanders for third place in the Metropolitan Division and a guaranteed playoff spot.

The 24-year-old Foerster had arm surgery back in December, and originally was supposed to miss five months. He was expected to be out for the rest of the regular season and the team didn't expect to see him back until training camp in the fall. But his recovery obviously went better than expected.

Foerster got off to a hot start this season, recording 13 points on 10 goals and three assists in 21 games before his injury.

He had been regularly taking part in Flyers morning skates before games for a while now, and he even ditched the non-contact jersey a couple of weeks back. But still, no one knew when he'd be activated. That has now come to fruition.

Foerster went down in pain back on December 1st after unloading a one-timer on the power play.

But last year's 25-goal man is back, and the Flyers lineup, along with this week's addition of top prospect Porter Martone, takes on a formidable look.
