The Penguins Terminate 700-game NHL Veteran's Contract

The Pittsburgh Penguins and general manager Kyle Dubas have decided to part ways with 700-game NHL veteran Matt Dumba

Dumba was acquired in trade with a 2028 2nd-round pick for Vladislav Kolyachonok. The veteran defenseman played 11-games with the Penguins, and spent the majority of his time in the AHL with the WBS Penguins, skating 27 games, and scoring 20 points (6-14).

Before he arrived in Penguins, he had become a bit of a journeyman in the NHL, playing for the Dallas Stars, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Arizona Coyotes along the way.

He spent the lion's share of his career in the NHL with the Minnesota Wild, selected 7th overall in the 2012 draft.

It was announced today by the team that he's been placed on unconditional waivers for the purpose of terminating his contract.

Matt Dumba's 748-Game NHL Career Over?

Fortunately for Dumba, general manager Kyle Dubas' choice to terminate his contract at this point in the season means he won't miss out on any money as a result.

He won't be required to report to the WBS Penguins for a run in the Calder Cup playoffs.

Dumbas has played a total of 748 games in the NHL and scored 261 points (85-161).

Does this spell the end of his NHL career, or will he find a new home ahead of July?
