Free-Agent Watch: Edmonton Oilers to sign UFA Bobby McMann
The Edmonton Oilers have less than two years to right the ship, or else captain Connor McDavid is going to leave. There's been a ton of pressure put on GM Stan Bowman and company this offseason, as the Oilers need to retool their roster on the fly if they want to win a Stanley Cup.
McDavid and Leon Draisaitl were visibly frustrated at their end-of-season media availability, and called out the team for being average, and called out the organization for taking a giant step in the wrong direction the last couple of years. Looking ahead to the summer, Bowman can't miss when it comes to free agents and trade targets, and there's a specific need he'll be looking to address at the top of his lineup.
David Pagnotta: Re Oilers offseason: At least one of the pieces...that they identified...would be a speedy winger that can keep up with Connor McDavid - The Sheet (5/1)
Insert free-agent winger Bobby McMann, who is one of the fastest skaters in the league, doesn't mind throwing his body around, and has a history of finding the back of the net. McMann split last season between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Seattle Kraken, and once he joined the Kraken at the trade deadline, he popped off.
McMann finished his season dressing in 60 games as a Leaf, scoring 19 goals and 32 points, meanwhile once he joined the Kraken, he scored 10 goals and 14 points in 18 games. 29 goals is a huge year for McMann and this summer, he's going to be a number-one target of the Oilers.
The Oilers were trying to acquire McMann ahead of the deadline, and had a deal on the table to land both Nic Roy and McMann from the Leafs, but once the Colorado Avalanche offered a first-rounder for Roy, the deal fell through.
McDavid and McMann, could be the speediest duo in the league next season.
