Maple Leafs Netminder Joseph Woll Linked To Philadelphia Flyers
While the Flyers are open to locking up Vladar if the price is right (he has one year remaining on his deal and is eligible for an extension July 1), they are fully aware of the fact that this was the first time he'd ever started more than 30 games in a season (52 games, 51 starts). They are serious about bringing in another backstop to work with him.
To that end, Anthony Di Marco of Daily Faceoff has identified Toronto Maple Leafs goaltender Joseph Woll as a target for the Flyers.
Joseph Woll of the Leafs is a name sources had indicated to DFO as a name the Flyers like. Woll, who turns 28 this July, is part of a three-goaltender situation in Toronto along with (Anthony) Stolarz and Dennis Hildeby; with all of them needing to clear waivers, one will likely be dealt in the summer.
Woll would be a nice fit alongside Vladar. The Leafs' netminder has had his injury problems when facing a full starter's workload, and having a 1A/1B scenario with Vladar would be ideal, for both of them.
The 27-year-old Woll started 38 games this season (39 appearances) and posted an .899 save percentage with a 3.34 goals against average. Those numbers were inflated by the dreadful defense that was being played in front of him this season in Toronto. The Leafs surrendered the most shots on goal per game in the league, by far, at 32.44. No other team even cracked the 30 mark. They also had the highest unblocked shot attempts against.
For his career, Woll has a .906 Sv% and a 2.94 GAA.
This season, Vladar finished with a .906 Sv% and a 2.42 GAA for the Flyers.
Woll has two more years to run on his contract with a $3.67 AAV.
The Leafs will look to trade one of their three goalies, and certainly, Woll would bring back the highest return at this point.
