NHL Trade Rumors: Pittsburgh Penguins Making Trade Offers
The Pittsburgh Penguins are going to make some significant roster changes this summer. Kyle Dubas wanted to give the group a chance to go deep in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and next thing you know they got run out of the building by the Philadelphia Flyers.
Now, Dubas has some major decisions to make, and it doesn't sound like he'll be offering Evgeni Malkin a contract extension. Don't be surprised to see Malkin wind up with Alex Ovechkin in Washington, as he'll be looking for revenge if Dubas turns his back.
On the trade front, Dubas is already talking trade, and there's a ton of speculation he's looking to make the team younger, while also trying to land a number-one goaltender, and reshape his top-six forwards.
Rickard Rakell and Bryan Rust are two prime trade candidates this summer. Rakell, 33, has two seasons left on his deal at $5 million AAV, and does own a 8-team no-trade list. Rakell scored 24 goals and 48 points in 60 games this season.
Rust, on the other hand, is a franchise staple, but Dubas is going to show everyone that the franchise is heading in a new direction. Rust's signed for two more years also, at $5.1 million AAV, and doesn't own any trade protection.
There's speculation brewing that the Oilers are looking at Rakell, and the Detroit Red Wings are interested in adding Bryan Rust. We'll see if Dubas pulls the trigger at the NHL Draft next month, and sets himself up accordingly for the free-agent window to open on July 1.
