Report: Devils & Stars Linked to Offseason Blockbuster Deal

Keep an eye on the New Jersey Devils and Dallas Stars this summer, as the two teams are aligning to become trade partners.

The Stars have pending restricted free-agent forward Jason Robertson who is still without a contract, and there's no denying the fact GM Jim Nill is entertaining trade offers. Nill has to navigate very limited cap space and a ton of interest from others teams, so while Robertson may be one of the more prolific goal scorers in the league, the Stars could really fill a few holes if they decide to deal the proven sniper.

David Pagnotta: Does New Jersey and new GM Sunny Mehta take a big swing for Jason Robertson this summer? The Stars are continue to search for a legit right-shot defenceman. Maybe there’s one to be had from the Devils in a deal? - Fourth Period (5/30)

The Devils will be busy under Sunny Mehta this summer, and with Dougie Hamilton and Simon Nemec as prime trade candidates on the back end, moving on from one of them in a package for Robertson could be the play. There's also Dawson Mercer up front who is drawing trade interest from other teams and could certainly be involved if Robertson was coming the other way.

The Stars have some major decisions to make and they better not miss, as Robertson's been a huge part of their offense for the past several years. If a deal with the Devils falls through, don't be surprised to see the Montreal Canadiens, Philadelphia Flyers, Washington Capitals, Detroit Red Wings, and Pittsburgh Penguins have trade interest this offseason.

Robertson, 26, made $7.75 million AAV on his last deal, and last season, posted 45 goals and 96 points in 82 games.
