Oilers Trade Rumors: 2 'Speedy Wingers' on Edmonton's Radar in Trade Market
The Edmonton Oilers have some work to do this offseason, as they have, for all intents and purposes, one last kick at the can at convincing Connor McDavid that he should stick around after his two-year extension is up.
With that, one of the prime incentives of this offseason will be to land "a speedy, scoring winger for Connor McDavid," writes insider David Pagnotta. He goes on to name names, listing two potential targets.
Jeff Marek recently suggested St. Louis Blues winger Jordan Kyrou may be a target for the Oilers, while some whispers also suggest Philadelphia Flyers winger Owen Tippett, who was fiercely banged up during the playoffs, is also on Edmonton's radar.
Kyrou has been on the trade block in St. Louis for some time now, and perhaps it affected his play this past season. After three straight 30-goal campaigns, he had just 18 goals this year, but would still fit the description of the "speedy, scoring winger" that the Oilers are looking for.
The same goes for Tippett, who has averaged over 25 goals a yeaer over the past four seasons. He, too, has been the subject of trade rumors. However, many felt after his performance this season (28 goals and a career-high 166 hits), he may have silenced that buzz. That remains to be seen.
The Oilers are projected to have about $14.5 million in cap space available to put next season's roster together. But with all the trade talk circulating around Darnell Nurse, they could gain a bit more room if they are able to turn his $9.25M cap hit into something more tolerable via trade. Nurse does have a full no-move clause for the coming season, and then a 10-team No Trade List after that for the final three years of his contract.
