Utah Mammoth Trying to Acquire Winnipeg Jets' Connor Hellebuyck
The Utah Mammoth want to make a major splash this offseason and could be looking at a Vezina trophy winning goaltender as their prime target.
According to multiple sources, the Mammoth are looking at Winnipeg Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck as a prized jewel this summer. The Mammoth have the pieces to entice the Jets to pull the trigger, it's going to come down to Hellebuyck approving the trade to Utah. Considering his ties to some of the players on the roster, it could be a destination he's open to.
David Pagnotta: I wouldn't be shocked...because Utah's been quiet, and they like going big game hunting, if they enter the Connor Hellebuyck sweepstakes - Fourth Period (6/23)
The Vezina trophy winner has told Jets' management he's open to a trade and Kevin Cheveldayoff is working the phones trying to find the best deal that won't set his team back five years. Karel Vejmelka would certainly be part of the package, which would give Winnipeg a starting goalie for next season, it's what else needs to be included that's the question. The Jets would like to get their hands on both Tij Iginla and Cole Beaudoin in the trade, but at this point, it's hard to say how aggressive the Mammoth will need to be to outbid some other teams.
The Buffalo Sabres are rumored to have offered the No.4 overall pick they acquired from the Chicago Blackhawks, which would be a very quick turnaround from the Bowen Byram deal. The Sabres have multiple goalies under contract for next season and could easily create a package that Cheveldayoff is comfortable with.
If it's not the Mammoth or the Sabres, keep an eye on the New Jersey Devils, who just made a big trade with the Calgary Flames, and have a boat load of draft picks to offer the Jets.
