Devils' Nico Hischier helps rescue family in distress in Switzerland
New Jersey Devils captain Nico Hischier is one of the 'good guys' of the NHL, and recently he proved to be exactly that.
According to 20 Minuten, a Swiss news outlet, Hischier assisted the local police this past Saturday to help save a family, with two children, who were in distress on the water.
The family reportedly ran into trouble when their inflatable boat became stranded near a dam, prompting police and onlookers into action. Hischier reportedly didn't hesitate to get involved and a witness described Nico's actions as "heroic".
In true Nico fashion, he downplayed his role, saying he was simply happy everyone made it out safely and felt he was just a small part of the rescue. “In this situation,” Hischier explained to 20 Minuten. “Everyone is grateful for support, and we were all relieved that no one was hurt in the end.”
According to Bern cantonal police: “The police were finally able to pull the boat ashore using a throw bag, and the four occupants were rescued unharmed.” Along with police and other passerbys, the Bern professional fire brigade and ambulance were called to the scene as a precaution.
