NHL Trade: Minnesota Wild Acquire Blake Coleman From Calgary Flames

Our first trade of Day 2 of the NHL's Summer of '26 sees the Calgary Flames send Blake Coleman to the Minnesota Wild in exchange for Jake Middleton.

The full deal has Coleman & Olli Maatta going to Minnesota, with draft picks coming back to Calgary in addition to Middleton.

The Wild had been desperately searching for a second-line center, and Coleman had been sought-after by teams in that market.

It comes at a cost, however, as Middleton is a rugged, solid, top-four defensive defenseman who has been a rock on the blueline for the Wild for the past 4+ seasons. He has three years left to run on a four-year contract with a $4.35 million AAV.

Coleman brings his versatile, two-way game to the Wild, along with leadership qualities and the reputation of being a so-called "glue guy." He's going into the final season of a six-year deal at a $4.9 million cap hit.
