The Buffalo Sabres and Washington Capitals have completed another trade. It won't quite have the impact of the sign-and-trade swap of Alex Tuch earlier this offseason, but for two minor league players, it's a fresh start with new organizations.

The Sabres acquire forward Zac Funk, a 22-year-old undrafted forward who has spent his past couple of seasons split between the ECHL and the AHL, while battling some injuries as well. He's a 6-foot, 210-pound right-winger. In 23 games with the South Carolina Stingrays, Funk recorded nine goals and 19 points.

In his last season in junior hockey, 2023-24, with the Prince George Cougars of the WHL, Funk put up some huge numbers, with 67 goals in 68 games and 123 points. He also posted a +56 rating. That was enough to prompt the Caps to sign him to an entry-level deal.

In return, the Capitals receive huge 23-year-old undrafted left-winger Tyler Kopff. The 6'5", 225-pounder also split this past year between the ECHL and AHL. Most of his time was spent with the Rochester Americans, where he put up five points in 30 games.

Both players have one year remaining on their entry-level contracts, before becoming RFAs after the coming season.
