Edmonton Oilers' Goalie Prospect Returning to North America
Turns out the Edmonton Oilers fanbase can breathe a sigh of relief, as goaltending prospect Samuel Jonsson will be returning to play pro hockey in North America next season.
“Regarding reports involving Edmonton Oilers goaltending prospect Samuel Jonsson, all indicators are that he will be attending [Edmonton’s] rookie camp in September,” Stauffer wrote. “Further to that, he is expected to play in North America this season.”
Jonsson's one of the organization's best prospects in net and there was a lot of concern about him turning his back on pro hockey in North America, and heading back to Sweden, however, according to Oilers commentator Bob Stauffer, that's not the case at all.
The 22-year-old Jonsson played last season with the ECHL's Fort Wayne Komets. He will be attending rookie camp next month, and is expected to start the year back in the ECHL, or perhaps winning the backup role in the American Hockey League.

Jonsson was originally a fifth-round pick in 2022, and last season put up stellar numbers, posting a 21-8-2 record, along with a .910 save percentage.
