Trade Asking Price For Flames' Zach Whitecloud
Per Daniel Austin of the Calgary Sun, the Flames currently have nine defensemen jockeying for six regular spots this season.
Per PuckPedia, Calgary's active blue line lists Kevin Bahl, Jake Middleton, Whitecloud, Simon Nemec, Zayne Parekh, Yan Kuznetsov, Brayden Pachal, and Joel Hanley, with prospect Hunter Brzustewicz pushing for a spot on top of that.
What He'd Actually Be Worth
Whitecloud's appeal is largely because of his term and cost. He's signed through 2027-28 at a $2.75 million cap hit, a bargain number for a 29-year-old, right-shot, Stanley Cup-winning defenseman with 399 career NHL games.
That alone means it would probably have to be a pretty sweet offer for the Flames to move off him right now.

One trade pitch had a deal sending Whitecloud to Toronto for depth defenseman Philippe Myers, a 2027 second-round pick, and a 2028 fourth-rounder from Pittsburgh, framing him as protection for Chris Tanev's injury history on Toronto's third pairing.
Another one floated a swap built around unsigned Canadiens defenseman Arber Xhekaj plus a second-round pick heading to Calgary in exchange for Whitecloud, while adding that Montreal could ask for center Morgan Frost, another pending Flames trade candidate, as part of a bigger package.
The interest has been described as unusually wide, with "15 or more" teams having circled Whitecloud since Calgary acquired him from Vegas in the Andersson trade.
Why Calgary Isn't Desperate To Sell
The Flames aren't operating from a position of financial need. Calgary currently has roughly $14.88 million in projected cap space, meaning any Whitecloud trade would be about clearing a roster logjam, not clearing money.
Calgary Sun's Kent Wilson noted Whitecloud would draw a quality return given his experience, reputation, and contract, but also warned that trading him purely to solve a numbers crunch would be a mistake unless the return is right, since it would leave the blueline stocked almost entirely with unproven, inexperienced players behind him.

Whitecloud posted 17 points in 78 games last season split between Vegas and Calgary, with 10 of those points coming in 31 games after the trade, pretty solid numbers since he's never been an offensive producer.
He added 124 hits and 140 blocked shots on the year, and he owns a Stanley Cup ring from Vegas's 2023 championship run, plus eight points and a plus-14 rating across 22 playoff games during that title season.
