Free Agent Jeff Skinner Signs Overseas In Switzerland

Social Media Feature Preview

Jeff Skinner's career has concluded in the NHL after receiving no interest as an unrestricted free agent.

This comes after 1,110 games in the NHL, played with franchises such as the Carolina Hurricanes, Buffalo Sabres, Edmonton Oilers, and San Jose Sharks.

Chosen 7th overall in the 2010 NHL Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes, Skinner was known as a skilled forward with an excellent shot. His career-high 37-goals came during the 2016-17 NHL season with the Hurricanes.

The sniper was unable to ever top the 82-point season, in which he scored 35-goals in Buffalo. After finishing his season with the San Jose Sharks, where he played only 32 games and scored 13 points (6 goals, 7 assists).

He remained unsigned until August, which might've been the reason to search for employment overseas.

The free agent signed with the EHC Biel-Bienne, as announced by the team on Friday.

It wasn't until the 2024-25 NHL season with the Edmonton Oilers that he'd get to taste any postseason play. He scored 2 points in the playoffs (1-1) as an Oiler.

He was a part of the same Oilers team that failed to finish the job against the Florida Panthers in the Stanley Cup Final.

A bittersweet end to a long NHL career for Skinner.

Skinner scored 712  points (379 goals, 333 assists) and 491 penalty minutes in his 16-year career.
