LA Kings Linked To 4 UFAs Ahead of Training Camp

The LA Kings have made some moves this offseason to re-jig their lineup, adding the likes of Mats Zuccarello and Erik Haula in free agency, while also bringing back Corey Perry. 

There's some competition for spots across the roster, but adding some additional depth is still a possibility ahead of training camp. 

Andrew Miller of Rink Royalty has proposed these four notable unrestricted free agents as potential fits to bring in on a very low-cost deal, or on a PTO (Professional Tryout):

Nick Blankenburg, D

The 28-year-old undrafted, gritty, undersized defenseman split last season between the Colorado Avalanche and Nashville Predators. Despite his build (5'9"), Blankenburg plays a competitive, physical game and is a capable puck-mover. He logged over 19 minutes of ice time for Nashville in 2024-25. 

"I think there is actually a strong case to be made that Blankenburg would be the most logical defenseman for the Kings to potentially sign on a low-risk deal late this summer and before training camp," writes Miller.

Mike Reilly, D

With the forward group having the most depth on the roster, looking at another D-man could be an option. The 33-year-old is going into his 12th NHL season, and is coming off a Stanley Cup win as a depth guy on the Carolina Hurricanes blueline. He's a puck mover and is used to the depth role at this stage of his career. 

John Klingberg, D

If the Kings are looking for a blueliner who's focused on the offensive side of the puck, Klingberg is the target. Now 34, injuries derailed his career for a couple of seasons before he bounced back last season to more of a full-time role with the San Jose Sharks. His offensive game returned as he posted 10 goals and 27 points in 56 contests, logging over 20 minutes a night. 

"If the Kings want to bring in another proven puck-moving defenseman who can give new head coach Peter Laviolette and staff an experienced weapon from the point on special teams on the power play, Klingberg could be a good option to fill that role."

Patrik Laine, F

Ah yes, is there a team that the former sniper hasn't been linked to this offseason? If the Kings are looking for a power play boost (they finished 28th in the league last season at just 17% efficiency), the seven-time 20-goal scorer would be a low-risk, high-reward option.
