Limited NHL interest in free-agent Evander Kane

Evander Kane has been spending his time lately battling it out on X with beat reporters from his old teams, and from the sounds of it, the free-agent forward hasn't had many NHL contract offers to mull over this summer.

Kane's coming off a very tough season. The rugged winger posted 13 goals and 31 points in 71 games, and now at 35 years old, has seen some serious regression to his game. He's lost a step, he's not as physical as he once was, and the scoring touch is limited.

Kane's actions on and off the ice have many questioning if the distraction is worth it anymore. Kane's been a very polarizing figure in the NHL for a longtime now, including when he was with the Winnipeg Jets and would be spotted at the Blackjack tables at the Casino across the street during intermissions when he wasn't dressed for the game. It just seems like the circus follows Kane around a bit regardless of which jersey he's wearing.

The Oilers traded Kane to the Canucks last summer for a fourth-round pick, and he played out the final year of his contract in Vancouver, earning $5.1 million AAV. Kane's now entering PTO territory and even that seems like a stretch at this point. It wasn't long ago the Canucks tried to move Kane before the trade deadline, and gave his agent permission to talk to other teams, and not one trade offer came through.
