Minnesota Wild fans look away.

Wild general manager Bill Guerin attended the Minnesota State Fair on Monday, and answered a few questions related to Quinn Hughes' contract extension, and how Cale Makar's recent extension with the Colorado Avalanche could impact Hughes' next deal. It was very obvious from Guerin's comments, things aren't going as planned with advancing towards an extension.
The relationship is good between me and Quinn and his agent. There’s no tension. Communication has been good. I don’t have anything disheartening to say. They’re figuring out what they want to do in their career and their life. It’s pretty heavy.
Guerin admitted it's hard to predict the future and wouldn't get into answering hypothetical questions. Comments like this are certainly going to put the Wild's fanbase on edge.
Business is business. I can’t say what I would or wouldn’t do. This game is a business, and you conduct yourself in a businesslike manner. That’s both sides. I don’t like getting into hypotheticals. There’s a bar with Cale Makar signing that contract in Colorado, but Quinn might be after different things. He’s a different guy. He has a different personality and has different things in his life that are important to him. Who knows what he’s really going to want in the end.
It's becoming more and more obvious, Quinn prefers to play with his brothers in New Jersey, and considering he's just months away from being able to sign with the Devils next July, Guerin may have no choice but to move Quinn, instead of waiting out these contract talks until next offseason.
