The deal is worth $50.4 million total, and pays Minten $7.2 million AAV through the 2034 season. He's set to make just $879,166 plus bonuses this season. Minten's a former top pick of the Toronto Maple Leafs and was traded to the Bruins a couple of years ago, along with a first, and fourth-round pick for defenceman Brandon Carlo. Carlo's since been dealt to the St. Louis Blues, as Boston won the trade by a landslide.
Minten, 22, is expected to play a significant top-six role in Boston this season. Last year, he appeared in all 82 games, scoring 17 goals and 35 points, while averaging 15:33 per game, including spending time on both sides of special teams. Look for Minten to eventually be the Bruins full shut-down center, with some serious upside offensively, which is of course, what the Bruins are banking on with this contract.
“We are excited to have signed Fraser to a long-term extension,” said Bruins General Manager Don Sweeney. “Since joining our organization, Fraser has continued to grow and earn the accelerated trust of his teammates and coaching staff. His hockey sense, competitiveness, responsible two-way game, and offensive growth make him a valuable player for our group. This is a mutual long-term commitment that reflects our confidence in Fraser and the important role he will play, as well as Fraser’s belief in our team moving forward.”The #NHLBruins signed 22 y/o F Fraser Minten to a seven year $7.2M cap hit contract
