Calgary Flames' Morgan Frost Named Prime Trade Candidate

The Calgary Flames will be one of the NHL's worst teams in 2026-27, and expect to see general manager Craig Conroy pull the trigger on a few moves throughout this season. One player who is almost a guarantee to be moved - Morgan Frost.

Frost, 27, has just one year left on his contract at $4.7 million AAV, and owns a eight-team no-trade clause, so he'll have a little bit of say in the matter. Frost is coming off a solid season, scoring 22 goals and 43 points in 82 games, averaging 15:30 of ice-time per game. Frost brings a lot of versatility to his game, and can play all over the lineup, on either wing, and down the middle of the ice.

The Flames likely aren't going anywhere this year, so they need to determine whether Frost, a pending UFA, is part of their future or not. If he isn't, Calgary should shop him around a league where centers are in high demand.

The Flames showed last season by dealing Nazem Kadri they were starting a full tear-down and rebuild, and rightfully so, Conroy needs to reset his roster and build around Simon Nemec, Dustin Wolf, Zayne Parekh, Matvei Gridin, Matt Coronato, and Connor Zary.

As far as other trade candidates to keep an eye on in Calgary, veteran forward Ryan Strome is also entering the final season of his contract, and could be on the move. Joel Farabee is another forward to keep an eye on, and on the back end, look for Zach Whitecloud to be dealt at some point this season.
