Captain Mark Stone Signs Multi-Year Extension With Vegas Golden Knights

The Vegas Golden Knights will be keeping their captain around for a while, agreeing to terms with Mark Stone on an extension that will fend off pending unrestricted free agency next summer. Instead, he'll be sticking around through 2028-29, signing a two-year extension.

The deal will pay Stone a $9 million AAV, a slight decrease from his $9.5M annual salary on his eight-year contract that expires at season's end. 

The 34-year-old will continue to have a full no-move clause through the extra two years of this extension. 

$8M of the $9M will come in the form of a signing bonus for the first year of the new deal next summer. 

In 400 regular-season games for the Golden Knights in his eight years there, he's been pretty much a point-per-game man, with 396 points and a +112 rating, while averaging 19:08 of ice time per night. 

While injuries have limited Stone to somewhere around 60 games a season the past three years, he's always been a beast in the playoffs for them, with 43 goals in 102 games including an 11-goal, 22-point performance in 2023 in leading them to the Stanley Cup. 

Last season, he posted a seven-year high of 28 goals and 73 points. 

Stone has been the team's captain since 2021. 

Overall, including his seven previous seasons with the Ottawa Senators at the start of his career, the elite two-way forward has 707 points in 766 NHL games with a +167 rating.
