Carson Soucy Lands PTO With Another Metropolitan Team

As training camps beckon this coming week, veteran defenseman Carson Soucy was one of the remaining notable UFAs on the market. He spent all last season in the Metropolitan Division, with the New York Rangers and Islanders. Now, he'll remain in the Metro, at least through training camp. 

The Columbus Blue Jackets have signed the 32-year-old left-shot D-man to a PTO. 

The 6'4", 210-pound defensive blueliner is adept at clearing the front of the net, uses his long reach to disrupt passing lanes, and can block shots. Opponents are aware when Soucy is on the ice, as he can hand out some punishing hits. 

He'll add some depth to the Jackets' blueline mix for training camp. 

“Carson Soucy is a big, physical stay-at-home defenseman who blocks shots, clears the net and plays an overall solid defensive game,” said Columbus GM Don Waddell. “He is a competitive, experienced player and we look forward to having him in camp.”

In addition to the NY teams, he's also suited up with the Vancouver Canucks, Seattle Kraken and Minnesota Wild over his eight NHL seasons. In 441 games, he has 32 goals and 67 assists for 99 points, along with 681 hits and 532 blocked shots. Additionally, he has a plus/minus rating of +54. 

Last year with the Rangers & Islanders, he recorded 12 points in 76 games, with 105 hits and 91 blocks.
