Dallas Stars Sign Goalie Casey DeSmith To Multi-Year Extension

The Dallas Stars have gotten a piece of business done before they hit the ice for their opener on Friday night. They have signed backup goalie Casey DeSmith to a $5M  million extension over two years ($2.5M AAV).

The new deal will begin at the start of the 2027-28 season, as the 35-year-old keeper wraps up a three-year contract this season that is paying him $1.05M AAV. 

In his two years as Jake Oettinger's backup, he has started 52 games and posted a 29-16-8 record with a .911 save percentage, 2.50 goals-against average and three shutouts. 

“Extending Casey has been a priority for us, and we’re excited to have him locked up for two more years,” said GM Jim Nill. “He’s been incredibly reliable during his time with our organization, and we are looking forward to the tandem of Casey and Jake continuing to anchor our team moving forward.”

Over an impressive eight-year career as an NHL No. 2 goalie, DeSmith has registered a 99-69-29 record with a .910 save percentage, 2.74 goals-against average and 13 shutouts in 220 regular-season career games. 

Last season in Dallas, DeSmith posted a 15-8-6 record in 30 appearances, with 2.43 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage.
