The deal carries a $7.25 million cap hit, and will be doled out largely in signing bonuses. He'll have a seven-team no-trade clause in Year 3, a five-team NTC in Yr 4, and a three-team NTC in the final year. The contract also eats up three years of UFA status.
The deal kicks in for the 2027-28 season, as he is wrapping up a two-year deal this season on a $3M cap hit.
The Devils landed the 24-year-old playmaker two weeks ago in a trade with the Nashville Predators for first- and second-round picks.
Evangelista set career high in assists last season
He set career highs with 44 assists and 56 points last season in a personal-best 16:37 average ice time per game.
Evangelista was a second-round pick of the Predators (42nd overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft.
In 253 career games, he has 45 goals, 97 assists and 142 points with a plus/minus rating of +6.
New Devils GM Sunny Mehta has revamped the team's forward group this offseason, with Evangelista joining Evan Rodrigues and Anthony Mantha as the other newcomers.
