Report: Flyers Eyeing Defensive Help Before Season
David Pagnotta included a brief note on the situation in his Sunday column for The Fourth Period.
"One team believed to be eyeing defensive depth: Philadelphia," Pagnotta wrote.
The Timing
Philadelphia's defense corps is already fairly set heading into the season, with Travis Sanheim, Cam York, Rasmus Ristolainen, Jamie Drysdale, and Nick Seeler occupying five roster spots.

David Jiricek and Oliver Bonk have been competing for the sixth spot throughout camp, with recent reporting suggesting Jiricek currently holds the inside track after a strong training camp.
Pagnotta's note doesn't name a specific target, and it stops well short of suggesting Philadelphia is actively engaged in trade talks.

Pagnotta's same column also touched on Philadelphia in a different context, noting the Flyers are among a group of teams, alongside Montreal, Los Angeles, Boston, Carolina, and San Jose, that have "poked around" on Dylan Larkin's situation in Detroit since June, even though Philadelphia isn't currently on Larkin's approved trade list.
GM Danny Briere has roughly $13 million in cap space to work with if the front office decides to act, giving the Flyers a lot of flexibility regardless of what direction they ultimately go.
