Goalie Carousel Continues On Waiver Wire: One Claimed, One Added

The goalie carousel is turning again on the waiver wire as we get closer to the start of the regular season. The Vancouver Canucks have claimed goaltender Leevi Meriläinen off waivers.

Meriläinen, 24, played in 20 games for the Ottawa Senators last season and was a third-round pick of the team out of Finland in 2020. He has an .885 save percentage and a 3.00 goals-against average in parts of three seasons in the NHL across 34 games.  

Could Jets look at a 4th tour of duty for Eric Comrie?

Meanwhile, the San Jose Sharks have placed three-time former Winnipeg Jets backstop Eric Comrie on waivers.

Comrie was Connor Hellebuyck's backup in Winnipeg the previous two seasons, posting a Sv% of just over .900 while starting 44 games in that span. He had previously spent the 2021-22 season as a Jets' backup, getting into 19 contests, and played a handful of games in his first tour of duty with the team in his first pro seasons late in the previous decade. He was a second-round pick of the Jets in 2013. 

Winnipeg, of course, is facing an uncertain future between the pipes, with Hellebuyck holding out and demanding a trade. Stuart Skinner was brought in from free agency and will be the starter while rookie Thomas Milic, with only three games of NHL experience, is currently slated to be the backup. 

Could a 4th stint in Winnipeg be far behind for Comrie? We'll know in the next 24 hours.
