Surprising Update On Canucks' Jake DeBrusk Trade Rumors
DeBrusk Denies Ever Asking Out
In a conversation with Sportsnet's Iain MacIntyre, DeBrusk spoke about it. "I want to say this on the record: I have not asked for a trade," he said. "There are all kinds of crazy things out there sometimes, but I haven't talked to anyone about that."
He added that he signed in Vancouver for a reason and still believes he can help the team win.

The rumors go back to comments DeBrusk made to Ben Kuzma of The Province during a rough stretch this year, when he said a rebuild "is not something I would be OK with or accepting" because his game doesn't fit that kind of roster.
Vancouver has since leaned all the way into a rebuild, and that combination turned DeBrusk into the name everyone assumed wanted out, even though he never actually said it.
The Team's Side Sounds Different
DeBrusk's denial doesn't necessarily kill the speculation, though.
David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period has reported that moving on from each other still looks like the "end goal" for both DeBrusk and the Canucks, with Vancouver simply waiting for the right trade package rather than rushing a deal.
Pagnotta also noted DeBrusk's contract, which still has five years left at a $5.5 million cap hit, as one reason a trade hasn't materialized yet.
So while DeBrusk isn't the one pushing for a move, that doesn't mean Vancouver is closing the door on one.
He signed a seven-year deal with the Canucks in 2024 that carries a full no-movement clause for this season before converting to a 15-team no-trade list next year, meaning any deal from here still runs through him either way.
