Report: Oilers Intent On Acquiring Canadiens' Kirby Dach
Seravalli reported that the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames have kept close tabs on Dach's situation throughout September.
Edmonton's interest stands out above the rest.
"The interest in Edmonton borders on drooling," Seravalli wrote. "The Oilers are intent on acquiring Dach at some point, whether that's before the season starts, at the March 1 trade deadline, or next summer as a free agent."
Montreal Hasn't Budged Yet
The Canadiens have already turned down offers for Dach once this year.
Multiple teams offered a second-round pick for him back in June, but Montreal wanted immediate roster help instead of picks.
Seravalli reports the Canadiens can afford to wait this out, since Dach's main competition for a roster spot, Florian Xhekaj, is waiver exempt.
Montreal also made an unusual move this summer, structuring Dach's $4 million qualifying offer as a two-way deal, a rare tactic in the salary cap era typically used to pressure a player into accepting a lower number.
The obvious storyline is reuniting Dach with his younger brother Colton, who's already in Edmonton's system.

But Seravalli reports the real driver is GM Stan Bowman, who drafted Kirby Dach third overall back in 2019 during his time running the Chicago Blackhawks and has long believed his injury history has masked his actual upside.
Calgary's interest has its own logic too, with the Flames in need of a No. 1 center and reportedly following up with Montreal again since training camps opened.
Dach, 25, carries a $3.6 million cap hit and is currently fighting for a roster spot in Montreal's crowded camp, though he's said he's staying focused on his own game rather than the outside speculation.
