Laine, 28, has been skating in south Florida and many felt he could be a potential fit with the Lightning or Panthers, but the Red Wings have quickly emerged as a prime destination. They are desperate for more offense, and if Laine's healthy, and at the top of his game, a 30-goal season is within reach.
Laine is coming off a very tough final season in Montreal. He was injured and worked his way back to full strength in January, but the team was rolling at the time, and decided they were better without Laine in the lineup. The Canadiens essentially turned their back on the former No.2 pick, and Laine made it known at the end of season media availability that he wouldn't be back in Montreal.
Detroit has Dylan Larkin's trade demands to worry about at the moment, but it makes sense for them to add Laine. They have a huge hole at right wing with Patrick Kane heading back to the Blackhawks, and they have loads of cap space to make it work. Laine will be in store for a one-year deal at a low AAV, with some incentives around goal-scoring and games played very likely.
Keep an eye on the Red Wings, LeBrun feels they're a perfect landing spot for Laine.
