St. Louis Blues Name Robert Thomas Team Captain

Well, THIS oughtta put those trade rumors to rest. After being at the center of trade rumors and controversy last season, St. Louis Blues star center Robert Thomas has been given the franchise's highest on-ice honor. Thomas has been named the 25th captain in the history of the St. Louis Blues.

Thomas has proven himself to be a point-per-game player over the past five seasons, as he's emerged as an All-Star, and the leader of the team. 

Thomas goes from trade block to new team captain in St. Louis

After his name was bandied about in all sorts of trade rumors at the March deadline, along with other notable Blues players, Thomas was not dealt. And in fact, at season's end, he came out and said the team never even came to him to ask him to waive his no-trade clause. The asking price was extremely high for them to even consider it. 

Now, after he's shown a new commitment to the franchise for the future, they have done the same with him. 

The 27-year-old led the NHL in shooting percentage last season, at 24.5%, while scoring 25 goals along with 64 points in 64 games. He also plays both ends of the ice equally well, recording a plus/minus rating of +22.

Thomas was a first round pick of St. Louis in the 2017 NHL draft, 20th overall. In eight NHL seasons, he's played 530 games and recorded 132 goals and 460 points with a +68 rating. 

As the Blues continue their retooling under new GM Alex Steen, Thomas will lead the way, both on the ice and in the room.
