Veteran Goalie Cam Talbot Finds New Home In Metropolitan Division

The goalie carousel has stopped in Columbus, as the Blue Jackets have signed unrestricted free agent Cam Talbot to a one-year contract.

It's a $950,000 deal for Talbot, who will be suiting up for his 9th team in the NHL.

Talbot spent last season with the Detroit Red Wings, as the 39-year-old posted a 12-9-6 mark in a backup role, with an .883 save percentage and a 3.19 goals-against average in 25 starts (34 appearances). 

It's a nice move for Columbus, who lost backup Elvis Merzlikins to shoulder surgery this offseason. There is still no timeline for his return. 

Jet Greaves took over as the starter last season for the Jackets, and Talbot will serve as the veteran backup for him. It hasn't been long since Talbot was carrying a heavy load in an NHL season, being the primary starter for the Red Wings in 2024-25, starting 43 games and posting a .900 Sv%. 

Overall, in 13 NHL campaigns, across 567 games between the pipes, Talbot has a .911 Sv% and a 2.69 GAA along with a record of 278-204-53, with 33 shutouts.
