Report: Flyers' $25.75 Million Defenseman Emerges As Trade Candidate
Di Marco wrote that York “has not been actively at the heart of trade talks,” and that Daily Faceoff was told this week that his name has begun to come up.
The report was mostly about the Flyers’ forward logjam, with Travis Konecny and Owen Tippett in the mix as the team looks for a top-six center.
A Rookie Has Taken Over The Top Pair
Oliver Bonk, the 22nd overall pick in 2023, started the season in the AHL and was recalled when injuries hit, and he has stepped into a top-pairing role next to Travis Sanheim, averaging 20 minutes through his first six games with four assists.
Hunter McDonald played 10 minutes alongside David Jiricek in his season debut Monday, and Di Marco wrote that York’s future “could be in flux” if Bonk and McDonald continue to stick in the NHL.
If Cam York is available... that would be pretty intriguing. I know Flyers fans (and Tortorella) don't love the player but he's produced solid results year-in and year-out. Probably tops out as a high-end defensively oriented number three, which is a pretty good ceiling. https://t.co/zyYhv5CMrQ

York is 25 and “had struggled this season before being injured,” Di Marco reported, and he went on injured reserve October 18 with an upper-body injury after missing five games.
He's expected back Saturday, and Rasmus Ristolainen has also been out with an upper-body injury.
Philadelphia started 0-6-3 before winning three straight, including a win over Colorado, and Di Marco said the team’s newfound success could lead to roster changes.
The Contract
York is in the second season of a five-year, $25.75 million contract that carries a $5.15 million cap hit and has no trade protection.
That means the Flyers could move him without needing his approval, and an acquiring team would be taking on a $5.15 million hit for another four seasons including this one.
Anthony Di Marco about Cam York: While York has not been actively at the heart of trade talks, his name has started to circulate as being potentially available, DFO was told late Monday night. - 10/20 #LetsGoFlyers #NHL https://t.co/q0iAmGuKy8

Ristolainen, 31, has been available at the right price for going on three years, Di Marco wrote, and there’s no reason to believe he’ll be extended.
Over his seven-year career, York has recorded 23 goals, 80 assists, and a -38 plus/minus rating across 314 games played.
