The Washington Capitals have made a move to add some depth to the blueline, claiming Jack St. Ivany off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets.

The 6'4" right-shot D was a fourth-round selection of the Philadelphia Flyers back in 2018, but didn't make his debut in the NHL until the 2023-24 season with the Pittsburgh Penguins. After three years of being in and out of the lineup there, he landed with the Jets this season, but was put on waivers on Friday after appearing in four games, in order to make room for some roster adjustments following the Connor Hellebuyck trade.

St. Ivany, 27, is in the final season of a three-year, $2.4 million contract ($850,000 AAV). He uses his long and sizeable frame to block shots, clog passing lanes, and get physical to help clear bodies in front of the net. He can also kill penalties.

He's played in a total of 57 career NHL games over four seasons, and has nine assists along with 68 blocks and 122 hits while averaging 15:30 of ice time per night.

The Capitals needed some depth on the right side after recently losing Vincent Desharnais for four to six weeks following an emergency appendectomy.

They've placed Logan Thompson on IR to open up a spot on the roster for St. Ivany.
