Could Canadiens Fans Be Souring On Dylan Larkin?
Dylan Larkin got a hero's welcome in Montreal a couple of weeks ago when his Detroit Red Wings visited the Bell Centre. Habs fans know that Larkin wants out of Detroit, and they showed him all the love they could, trying to convince him that he should consider coming to Montreal. He'd be a perfect fit as a 2C on that team.
Then Larkin updated and expanded his approved team trade list last week to a full 10 teams. But still no Montreal. Could fans in La Belle Province be feeling snubbed right about now? Insider Marco D'Amico thinks so, and he said as much on the Starr & D'Amico podcast this weekend.
Already a third of the league is on your list. At this point in time, either you want to go somewhere or you don't. And if you need to be backed into a corner to get there, then fantastic for (Canadiens GM) Kent Hughes. But I don't know that the fans are necessarily going to be as open to welcoming him knowing that it took borderline blackmail to get him to add Montreal to his trade list.
Habs fans chanted "We Want Larkin" during the Wings/Canadiens game earlier this month, and the disgruntled Detroit center admitted afterwards that he heard it, and commented that the Bell Centre is one of the best atmospheres in hockey.
But still nowhere to be found on his approved team trade list. Could that fanbase be moving on from the former Wings captain?
Nevertheless, the Red Wings continue to scout the Canadiens, and some in both towns are still holding out hope that Larkin changes his mind. No team would be better able to compensate the Wings with enticing young talent in return than Les Habitants.
In the meantime, the former Detroit captain continues to play for the Wings, at a 21:45 TOI clip per game, with five points in eight contests and a +2 plus/minus rating. He's coming off five straight seasons of 30+ goals.
